2012 marks Beta Mu's 92nd year in Austin. The active chapter appreciates the ongoing support of Beta Mu alumni in maintaining a strong Beta Mu Chapter. The time, treasure and talent that our loyal alums provide is invaluable to maintaining Pike’s place.
The Alumni Advisory Board’s good work is appreciated. The board has expanded to include 21 men from throughout Texas. Thanks to Alumni Advisory Board Chairman Russ Keene ’80, Vice Chairman Doug Phelan ’65, Chris Bean ’83, Marquez Bela ’94, Steve Dunn ‘73, Marcus Fettinger ’07, Steve Glasgow ‘82, Todd Hasie ‘81, Jon Jones ’77, Gianni LaBarba ‘96, Jay Messer ’69, Aaron Motsinger ’07, Judge Mark Owens ’80, Bill Peterson ’80, Jon Saperstein ‘07, John Scofield '75, Jon Strieby ‘97, Jimmy Walsdorf ‘82, Barrett Wood ’98, Ken Womack ‘81 and Chad Sakonchick ‘00. Participation is voluntary and alums are invited to serve. We also thank our long-serving Chapter Adviser Amb. Stan McLelland ‘64 and the dedicated House Corporation Chairman Don Flournoy ‘66.
Alumni support of the chapter has been tremendous in 2011 to date. A January rush weekend outing was hosted by Alumni Advisory Board member Jimmy Walsdorf ’82 at his Fredericksburg area ranch. Jimmy’s hospitality was integral to the successful conclusion of our Spring rush resulting in eight Spring pledges. Several photos form Brother Walsdorf’s ranch weekend are in the Photo Gallery. Also in January, a number of the chapter officers and members from the Dallas area met with 25 DFW area alums for a networking breakfast during the college holiday break. (Scroll down to see photos from the Dallas breakfast.) In April several chapter officers joined a group of 25 alums for an enjoyable breakfast and briefing at Houston Country Club. In late February, the chapter and alums enjoyed a Founder’s Day BBQ dinner in Austin, where the Alumni Advisory Board presented the chapter with a framed montage of the Pike Founders for display in the chapter room.
A number of alums participated in a special rush funding appeal that greatly assisted the chapter in extending the rush budget by ten percent. The chapter is most grateful to these alums for digging deeper and benefiting our rush activities. The 35 Fall 2011 pledges are outstanding young men who our alums will enjoy getting to know and welcome into the brotherhood.
Beta Mu conducted an honorary initiation in May 2011, bringing a most deserving gentleman into the Pike brotherhood through formal Ritual Initiation. Jim Tittle is a childhood friend of many Beta Mu Pikes, having grown up in Abilene with Beta Mu’s Bob Milstead ’48, Phil Kendrick ’49 and the late Fess Parker ’48. Tittle is also a friend of Brother Morgan Woodward ’49, who joined with Kendrick and Milstead to nominate Tittle for membership upon the recommendation of Fess Parker. Brothers Kendrick, Milstead and Woodward participated in the Ritual initiation at the Beta Mu house. Upon presenting Tittle with the Pike pin Woodward noted, “Jim is a splendid person, exactly the type of gentleman that exemplifies the character of Pi K A.” Tittle is a Texas A&M graduate, which did not have fraternities in his day. At TAMU, Tittle was a member of the Corps of Cadets, serving as Sergeant Major of the Corps, and was awarded his class’ Distinguished Military Graduate award. After U.S. Army service, Tittle embarked on a distinguished 50-year career in the field of architecture where he is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and has received numerous national and state professional awards. Beta Mu welcomes Tittle into the fraternity for his achievements in life which mirror the True Pike Creed.
A series of Fall 2011 Austin, DFW and Houston alumni gatherings are in the works, and of course, the chapter continues to host pre-football game tailgates near Darrel K. Royal Memorial Stadium before every home game. All Beta Mu alums and family are welcome to drop by the Pike tailgate trailers.

SUMMER 2009 ALUMNI RECEPTIONS
In the first of several summer 2009 alumni receptions around the state, Dallas and Fort Worth area Beta Mu alumni gathered at Dallas Country Club on May 19. Hosting the cocktail reception were Steve Ray ’69; Chris Jones ’70; Cass Robinson ’76; Russ Keene ’80; Ryan Thompson ’97; and Brad Harris ’02. Thirty alums were joined by six actives from the Dallas area who had just completed their Spring semester finals and were arriving home for the summer. Almost one-half of the active chapter members are from North Texas, and the alums were encouraged to help with rushee referrals and support of DFW area rush.

Alumni also gathered throughout Summer 2009 at the River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Westwood Country Club in Austin and the San Antonio Country Club. Each of the gatherings had more than thirty alumni present.
